Wasaga Beach, like many
other communities is mostly serviced by famous
food chains. McDonald's, Burger King, Tim
Hortons, Pizza Pizza. They are all here, but
if you are looking for sit down restaurant,
there are a few places to consider.
If you have
read some of the articles on this website,
you'll know that I have a thing about
restaurants that serve anything but freshly
prepared food. I don't want to pay for
frozen or coated fries, re-hydrated or
bagged soups (Tim Hortons) or meat of any
kind that has been artificially tenderized.
Canned or processed foods have no place in
"family" restaurants. I expect my food to be
properly cooked and served to me at a
temperature which will not endanger my
health. If I am to recommend any place to
visitors of this site, they must meet my own
standards first.

The
Dyconia Resort
restaurant is at Beach 2,
overlooking the Nottawasaga River. The view is
spectacular, lush and green in the summer with boats
and jetski's going by.

There is a large outdoor
patio which is open seasonally. Owners John and
Pat usually go out of their way to decorate and
landscape the property and their efforts are
appreciated by guests. Because the restaurant
faces the river, it feels private and exclusive.
Even on long weekends, this patio is like an
oasis from the madness.
In the Winter, the pristine
snow and frozen river create a romantic feeling
as you sip a hot beverage by the warm, crackling
fireplace.
The Dyconia has been a
mainstay in the Community for longer than most
can remember and with good reason. Great steaks,
prime rib dinner, chicken, creative pasta dishes
and plenty more to suit almost any taste.

Fiona’s Bakeshop & Tea Room
This Wasaga Beach restaurant
offers visitors freshly baked treats and a variety of teas.
The coffee is strong (just the way I like it) and there is a
wonderful selection of baked goods as well as some daily food
specials. The smell is heavenly when you walk in the door and
I think it's the only place where you can buy authentic
Scottish foods anywhere in this area.

The Chopsticks
In Stayner - but only a 10 minute drive!
Finally, I am happy to report a Chinese food
restaurant that doesn't cheap out with
disgusting fleshy mystery meats. The
vegetable dishes didn't contain the cheapest
celery and bean sprouts. I ordered a breaded
teriyaki style chicken, Szechwan chicken
with vegetables and rice fully expecting to
be disappointed, but lo and behold, it was
actually very good. Even my husband who
generally does not like Chinese food enjoyed
this. Veggies were cooked al-dente with a
nice blend of onions, green and red peppers.
The chicken teriyaki was interesting in both
consistency and flavour. Szechwan was not
dummed down for North American tastes. Watch
out, it is hot.
Topper's
Pizza - (Mosley - Tim

Mr.
Norm's Nephew - Frozen Yogurt and Ice Cream. The best in
Town. This is NOT Breyer's or Neilson's like
so many other ice cream stores. The ice
cream is flavoured to your specifications
using fruit, cookies, cocoa and more. The
kids will have fun inventing weird flavours.

Georgian Circle - Do you have any
European relatives who insist that you
eat more than is comfortable for your
stomach? "Eat, you're too thin, Eat!"
That's be easiest way to describe the
Georgian Circle Restaurant. Bring your appetites.
The portions are large!
We wish they would serve breakfast all
day, but they don't.
I was amused to see that they have 2
sizes of beef "18 Oz" and "Ladies
Cut". So, if you don't want to look
like a girlie-man, you have to eat
18 ounces of cow flesh. Hilarious!

The Beacon - (Mosley at 45th
Street). Karaoke Wed-Sun. I've not
been here in years (mostly due to
the Karaoke) but friends of mine
like the wings. If every bar served
British/Irish or Scottish pints, or
had a cappuccino machine, I'd go out
more often, but alas, just Canadian
swill here.

Stud's Lonigan's
A decent little pub with imported
ales (Guinness, Smithwicks eg.) The only place in town that I
know of which serves great imported
beers. It's been a while since I've
eaten
here but my experience was good.
Traditional pub fare, good wings.

Beverley's On Main
A nice surprise. The food is fresh,
homemade and nothing that I've
ordered has been pre-packaged. You
have an excellent chance of finding
comfort food favourites here. During
one of my visits they actually had
"corned beef hash with a fried egg
on top". Unbelievable! Just like Mom
used to make.

Galaxie Diner
One of those places decorated to look
like a 1950's diner. The food is not
1950's. Pre-fabricated hamburgers and
not homemade fries. They completely
missed the point with serving
processed foods. Decoration just isn't
enough to get me to eat here again.

Canton Buffet - (River Road)
Awful. Bland, tasteless and gummy.
Meat so tenderized that it can't be
identified any more. Avoid. Ditto
for the Chinese restaurant directly
across the street from this one. I
can't recall the name, but if it's
Chinese food you are looking for, go
to Collingwood.

1.) There is also one in Collingwood
and in Stayner. Burgers are okay, but
they've changed their fries to the
icky coated ones. I've always liked
their ice milk treats.

Collingwood:
Admiral's Post - I love the food here.
Casual. Great imported beers. Ditch the low-carb
diet and try the fries. Fantastico! The
Admiral's Post continues to have high
standards of freshness and interesting daily
specials. Favourites include: Fish & Chips
(halibut); the best fresh cut fries in the
area. (Make sure to ask if they are fresh or
frozen, as they do occasionally substitute
if they run out), curried chicken and
shepherd's pie.

Canton
Chop Suey House -
I was pleasantly surprised with this
restaurant. The food was very fresh. Typical
Chinese food choices, but everything was
good. The best part is that it is reasonably
priced. We completely pigged out for 2
people for only $25.00.

Echos
- This restaurant is new in 2007 and
takes the space formerly occupied by Casey's
in the Collingwood Canadian Tire/Zellers
mall. I brought my husband here for his 50th
birthday and we had high hopes. We ordered 2
different steaks from the menu at over
$23.00 each. We requested that they be
cooked "medium" with the specific
instruction of "pink, but not bleeding". The
steaks arrived well done. Almost leathery.
This is a forgivable mistake but the error
that has resulted in this negative review
was the day-old pan fried vegetables. No
fine dining restaurant should serve less
than fresh foods. Not at these prices.

India's
Curry House - New
in 2007. FINALLY! I've waited years

made so expect it to be different each and
every time you visit.

Molly Bloom's
Irish Pub
29 Simcoe St. Phone: 705-445-0442
Molly's is more of a bar than a
restaurant but they have pretty decent
offerings from their small kitchen. I
am usually shy to order a steak in this type
of setting but the steak sandwich was on the
specials board one night. It's was the best
steak sandwich I've had in a long while.
Tender, all the fat trimmed off, fresh and
juicy! I did not like their shepherd's pie.
It was too small and overcooked but many of
the other items are good. Wings, chicken
fingers - standard pub fair.

Montana's Cookhouse - Ugggggh! Unless
you like sickly sweet BBQ sauces and tough,
chewy beef. Avoid. I've heard that this is a
popular chain restaurant but after 2
disgusting meals, I'm not brave enough to
try again.

Old Towne Terrace
This restaurant deserves the highest praise.
The patio located on a busy downtown street
feels like a little oasis from the traffic.
Fenced in and surrounded by lush
landscaping. Professional service and large
portions, one would expect to pay more for
this enjoyable dining experience. Lunch
included a piled-high corned beef sandwich
and a similarly tall turkey club. Dinner
selections tend to be more formal fare but
prices are reasonably set. I don't mind
saying that I look forward to another visit,
perhaps next time for dinner. Highly
recommended!
